Importance of literacy
It is said, "A battle not won by the sword can be won by the power of the pen". And this thing is also very true. Because being able to hold a pen is basically the measure of literacy. In today's modern age, education is very important.
Importance of Literacy:
India is called the country of villages. Because majority of people in our country live in villages. Among these people the number of agricultural laborers etc. is more and they are the most uneducated and illiterate people. In such times, many shrewd businessmen, crooked leaders and government officials take advantage of illiteracy for their work.
What is literacy?
Literacy means educating the uneducated people of the country to read and write. In other words, to be literate is to acquire the ability to read and write. According to the National Literacy Mission in India, a person is literate if he can read and write his name.
The importance of education in present time is very much. Education is an essential aspect of life. Apart from this, illiterate people are also a part of our own society. And it is our duty to make them literate. Because if every citizen of a country is literate then only that country will progress. Literacy is related to the social and economic development of the country. Without education, a person's life is like that of an animal.
Illiterate people cannot understand the schemes from the government properly and due to this they do not get the benefits of the government schemes. Literate people cooperate with the right decisions of the government and also oppose the wrong decisions. A literate person knows the value of his opinion. So he gives his vote to the right leader.
Our country is an agricultural country. Only if a farmer in this country is literate, he can get more income from agriculture. Educated farmers practice farming scientifically. They use new modern equipment to produce more grain from the farm. And develop their village and country.
Just as education is important for men, education for women is also essential. An educated woman educates her children and other family members. Along with this, he provides financial support to the family by doing job and business. This makes the family progress in the society early.
The rate of development in that country shows how much the country suffers due to low literacy. Considering the importance of literacy around the world, the United Nations has decided to celebrate 17th November 1965 and 8th September as 'World Literacy Day'. World Literacy Day was celebrated for the first time in 1966 and since then the day is celebrated every year on September 8.
A large population of our country is still illiterate. The reason behind this is that even today in many rural villages, the right one is not available. And financially poor students cannot study in private schools. Therefore, both the society and the government should know the importance of education, whether it is a boy or a girl, and work to bring education to every household. If education increases, people will become literate and progress in every field and this will also progress the country.
