Autobiography of a river
I am a river. I am known by many names like Nadi, Nahar, Sarita, Pravahini, Jeevandayini etc. All these names are given on the basis of my nature and speed. Sir Sir, I am called Sarita because of the sound of Sir Sir. I am called Pravahini because I always flow in the flow. I carry water from one place to another. Water is called life and since I am the source of water, I am called the giver of life.
In simple language you can call me river. My daily work is to flow from one place to another, quenching the thirst of the animals, birds, humans and trees of the earth. Wherever I go, I satisfy the thirst of man, beast, bird and tree. My water makes the skin green and rejuvenated. I do this work regularly and this is the meaning of my life.
I have not always looked the way I look in the plains today. I began under rocks in the snow mountains of the Himalayas. I emerged from an inscription and moved forward making melodious music. When I was going with the flow, many obstacles started coming in my way. These included small boulders, trees and bushes and large mountains. They all tried to block my way one by one. But I fought my way through them with all my might.
In this manner, crossing the great mountains and forests, I finally reached the plains. From where I began to flow, banks were made on both sides of me. Day by day I was expanding. Slowly things began to sit on my shore. Many people started building their houses and huts on my shore. Today there are many small villages in the places where I flow. All these people depend on my water. They use my water for agriculture and drinking. People have built many small bridges over me for their convenience. Cars are transporting cars over this bridge.
Often my water level increases due to heavy rainfall during rainy days. When there is a deluge, water enters the bridge and many small and big villages. People suffer because of this water. But what I can do is that my flow is only slightly under my control. I have passed through many towns and cities during my life. I have seen many soldiers, kings, maharajas, bandits and saints. I have seen old houses destroyed and new settlements established.
I have seen many things in my life. I have faced many troubles and sorrows. My advice to all of you is that you too are not afraid of adversity and face it without losing patience and achieve what you want in your life.
